WRc's Pollution and Flooding team is uniquely placed to provide solutions for asset owners that tackle the sewer networks big issues of moving forward to zero pollutions and sewer flooding events. The team provide intelligent solutions by focussing on the improved use of data, smart technology adoption and engineering knowledge to provide companies with a more proactive, targeted and therefore a more efficient approach to sewerage management.

Role

We are seeking an experienced wastewater networks professional, from contractor, consulting or operator backgrounds, to join our Pollution and Flooding team in a Consultant role. You will use your prior knowledge, to help develop the vision for a growing and developing the team in line with an ever-evolving market place.

You must have a strong technical background in wastewater network operations within the water industry as well as the ability to utilise a network of contacts to help develop business within the wastewater networks area.

This role requires the ability to respond to client needs, through shaping and delivering innovative solutions. You will be responsible for delivering the business plan and participating in the sales and marketing plan for the Pollution and Flooding Team, working closely with the Pollution and Flooding Theme Lead and the Head of Infrastructure Solutions to achieve our commercial targets.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Technical Consultant at WRc you will:

  • Work with and help develop a team of consultants to win and deliver work in the Pollution and Flooding business area;
  • Utilise a wide network of contacts in water companies, regulators, other consultancies and industry to develop business opportunities and maintain a pipeline of work;
  • Guide team members with delivering projects and take ownership of the final outputs and client benefits;
  • Take account of the latest developments and innovations in the subject area to help maintain WRc’s position as an industry leader, and;
  • Support the mentoring and professional development of colleagues.

Job requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or higher in a relevant subject;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience ideally in wastewater networks with an operational delivery focus;
  • A successful track record in developing business opportunities and winning work;
  • Experience of leading complex multi-disciplinary project teams;

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of sewer operations
  • Developing sewerage network solutions and evaluating their costs and benefits;
  • Understanding of the causes of sewer failures and their environmental impacts;
  • Sound appreciation of the water industry and its regulatory drivers;
  • Self-starter willing to develop and implement new ideas;
  • Eligible to work permanently in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of pumping station operations;
  • Knowledge of urban hydrology and hydraulic design;
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering aspects sewer networks
  • Understanding of the sewer inspection and cleaning techniques.
  • A track record of developing business and winning work in a technical consultancy
